The PC has been around for as long as I can remember. My first memories I have with the PC was playing with the learning games that my parents had bought me. They were on a CD, I believe. Insert it in the computer, just like you would today, and play. I remember getting frustrated with the games, more than anything, because I couldn't figure out how to use them. There weren't many options with the games and it went extremely slow. I remember being so excited to play on the computer but I was disappointed with what I actually experienced. I gave up on the PC early on. Then, when I was in middle school, we had to write papers and do projects that involved using a computer. We learned how to use computers in school but I still had trouble with it when I was at home and I needed help from my parents. I wasn't a fan of the computer. After my dad upgraded the computer and Myspace came out, I was on the computer as much as I was home. I was addicted because it was faster and there was so much to do! I was able to talk to my friends, create pages, listen to music, and much more. That created my love for the PC.
Later on, in high school and in college, I was much more dependent on the PC because I had to be. Education now a days, without connecting to the internet, you won't know details about assignments, any updates, and you won't have the research tools that most people will have. I couldn't imagine not having the internet while in school. I use it every single day for educational purposes when I'm attending school.
Outside of school, I use the internet for leisure and for my job. I'm on social media several times a day when I'm not doing anything. I connect with my friends, inform myself with news events currently happening, and watch entertaining videos. My job is extremely dependent on the internet. Without it, I wouldn't be able to complete my job. I use radar apps on the computer to see where planes are and I use several systems to help me coordinate where my planes need to me. Technology has become so advanced that we can use it for just about anything. However, that makes us reliant on it more and more everyday. With social and dependency theory together, it's a growing cycle of people wanting and depending on technology.
