Video Games In Society Today

Personally, I've never been into video games.  Growing up, I watched all of my friends playing them and because they liked them so much, I wanted to like them too.  However, I could never get into them.  It was probably because I could never get past getting used to the controller.  As technology evolved, I did get into online games like "farm town" on Facebook or apps on my phone like "words with friends".  Now, to pass the time, I watch Netflix.  I know people my age, or even older, who play video games like it's their passion in life.  My boyfriend makes sure he's home in time, on certain days of the week, to make sure he's there to play his game with his friends online.  He says, "I HAVE to play this game!" It's become a major priority in his life.

When my nephew was younger, he watched his uncle and all his other friends playing very gory murder games.  Therefore, my nephew wanted to join the fun.  However, my family wouldn't let him because they thought he was too young for it.  I agree because these kids shouldn't be exposed to so much violence at such a young age because they could get the wrong idea and think that it's okay to be violent.  Some argue that kids shouldn't be playing video games, at all.  I believe that appropriate video games for kids with a limited play time, can be very beneficial.  https://www.cbsnews.com/news/video-games-can-be-good-for-kids-study-finds/   In this link, an Oxford University Study compares the kids who don't play video game and the kids that play too much video games to the kids who play just enough video games.  The kids that play just enough, shows that they are more social and happier.  Video games make creative minds and many cognitive skills.

1977 was the rise of the console. I grew up when video game consoles were already very popular.  Mario games and Donkey Kong continue to still be favorites among my generation, even if we weren't around when it first came out.  People spend a lot of money on these games and game systems because it's a good investment.  You can play these games for hours, everyday, and like many, they don't grow old.   It says in the book that the money spent on some of these games exceed the money spent on some of the most popular movies.  With the way technology has advanced by making the graphics so clear and real like, they've grown even more popular which is why they are so high up in the media and will continue to grow.
