Privacy

I'd never been much of a skeptical or cautious person when it came to keeping my information private on the internet or any electronic devices.  There has been a couple of times where my bank has shut off my debit card because they detected fraud use but I've never had any money taken out of my account for it.  If there was money taken out, the bank must have put it right back in because I never saw anything missing.  People always tell me I should be more careful but I've always felt like I don't really have anything that anyone could find and use against me and if someone were to find my information, I figured I would be protected by people like the bank.  That is, until I found out all that these programs can find out about me.  It's scary to think that we really can't keep our information safe and hidden unless we stay away from technology.  However, in today's world, you can't get away from technology.
Now that I've learned about these issues, I am much more cautious about what I'm putting on the internet and what I'm sharing with people.  It almost makes me want to delete all of my social media and public account just because I feel so violated.  Before, I never thought about taking actions to protect my privacy but I will now.  We talked in class about a website that we can visit and request to see how much information they have gathered about us and stored in a profile.  I will definitely check that out and find out what I can do to delete some of the cookies that have been gathering my information.
I've never been big on sharing everything that I do on social media and I don't share my information publicly but they can still see everything that I search, watch, my locations, my private messages, etc.  Something that I didn't think about that the article mentioned was that all these cites are free and I completely agree that nothing is free.  You get what you pay for and when you don't pay for anything, they'll find someway to get their money.  We sign away to these agreements they throw at us, that we never read, that tells us, somewhat, what they are collecting from us.  We continue to use these cites even when we know they have information about us that we don't want them to have.  We do it to all selves in a way.  Protecting our country may be how all of this started but it has gone too far now.  This article talks about some of the ways that privacy issues can ruin your life and some of the areas that are strongly effected.  https://ethics.csc.ncsu.edu/privacy/web/study.php
