Technology, in my opinion, is great! Of course, there are some negatives of technology but for me and my life style, its very beneficial and entertaining. I use technology everyday, almost all day long. I'm an apple user and I try to stay updated with all the new technology. I try to keep up with the iPhones, watches, and I have the air pods. If I could afford more, I would definitely have more. Technology for me is very important because of school, my job, and just everyday communication. With school I have to have a computer to study, write papers, research, etc. With my job, I communicate with pilots all night long so I have a couple different radios, my phone to communicate with people on the ground directing planes in and pushing them out, and my computer to view the radar and many other systems we have at UPS. Technology is the best way to keep in touch with family and friends, especially when we all live very busy lives.
After reading the article, I would like to say that I do agree that technology should definitely be used in moderation and especially in a positive way. I would be considered apart of the IGen era and I know that not everyone is the same but I am usually never effected by the negative stuff that I see on Facebook and other social medias but I can see how it would effect people and its pretty scary how these kids/young adult are reacting to the negativity. Crime and violence are spread throughout social media because that's what people want to see but they aren't seeing what its doing to them mentally. Also, there is a lot of cyber bullying that has led to many suicides.
Not only are there many terrible things to see on social media but the time spent on these cites/games is an outrageous amount. I have to admit myself, that if I'm not doing anything, believe that I'm either on my phone or watching TV; sometimes both. However, I'm still capable of holding a conversation with someone or doing an activity for several hours without HAVING to look at my phone. What I'm scared of is the kids that are about 10 and under, (any kid who was introduced to a screen since they can remember their first memory) who are so addicted to their phones that they literally cant function without them and I think its because of the parents who take the easy way out and shove a screen in their face to entertain them or to shut them up. My sisters kids can't sit down for more than 2 minutes to even eat their dinner if they don't have something to watch on the phone. I used to work at Texas Roadhouse and I had several families ask me if we share the WIFI password (we don't) for the kids tablets. I had a family leave the restaurant, after they had already been seated, because they're kids couldn't sit through a whole meal without their tablets. These kids were old enough to be able to at least carry on a conversation about their days. Its ridiculous the addiction kids have with the phone. They learn at such an early age, too. My 1 year old niece can open the tablet screen, flip through the pages, take pictures, play videos, etc.
Although, I have only been talking about the negatives of technology, I really do believe that it has changed life as we know it and it is very beneficial for our society, if used appropriately. With medicine, education, communication, accessibility, etc, technology has and will be an amazing tool that will help us.
